Total instruction is 8 hours

Range - 4 hours - We will cover the following topics

  • Firearm safety rules;

  • Safe shooting fundamentals (muzzle management, stance, grip, sight management, trigger management and follow through);

  • We will learn and practice the fundamentals of safe pistol shooting and shoot a shooting qualification. Students must pass the shooting qualification with a score of 70% or higher.

Classroom - 4 hours - We will cover the following topics:

  • Safe storage of firearms and child safety;

  • Federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use, and possession of firearms;

  • State law pertaining to the use of deadly force for self-defense;

  • Best practices for safely interacting with law enforcement personnel who are responding to an emergency; and

  • Techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution and judgmental use of lethal force.

  • Written exam - Students must pass with a score of 80% or better. This test will be an open book exam.
